If you have a niche site that gets a moderate amount of traffic - but doesn’t have thousands of people kicking at the door to get in every day - delivering your posts in more than one medium can greatly increase the amount of time your visitors spend on your site. And, of course, the longer they stay on your site the greater chance you have of getting them to buy something or click on your affiliate links or ads.
There are membership sites all over the place, and new ones popping up every day, that offer to guide you through the process with one button set-up, but you don’t have to sign up with expensive services to do this. Here are two ways to do it for free.
If your site is a Wordpress blog, you can use any of several free plug-ins to post Youtube and other videos on your site. Two that work well and are easy to use are EasyTube and Smart Youtube. You can also find a host of plug-ins for all types of video in the Wordpress Plugin Directory.
Creating a podcast out of each post is another way to help keep people on your site. You can find a list of user rated WordPress plugins for adding podcasts here. There is also a very good open source (free) podcast generator script called, appropriately, Podcast Generator that is full of easy to use features including a step by step wizard for creating audio player buttons for your site and the capacity to keep statistics for your podcasts. For creating and editing your podcasts, it is hard to beat Audacity which is available from the same source.
